My name is Steven Beard. I am the founder of Beautiful Beards Co. Being born with the last name Beard I grew up wondering about how my ancestors last name came about. Once I discovered the truth, I knew the journey I was about to take would be my Legacy.

 

Growing facial hair for me started at the young age of 14. I would try to grow hair on my chin and on my cheeks but from a distance people could not even tell I had facial hair. I followed the myth of shaving every day to promote growth but genetics and hormones took over. By the time i reached 17 years of age, I could grow a thin line beard. Something you would have seen on a boy band member in the late 90's, early 2000's. I rocked it throughout high school.

After high school I enlisted in the military. At this point, I figured my beard growing days were over. After my enlistment in the United States Navy I started shaving everyday. This is when I realized how curly of a beard I actually had. I started developing razor bumps all over my cheeks and chin. It didn't matter if a skipped a day or used top snotch shaving creams. The second my hairs would pierce my skin they curled back in to the skin creating a a red bumpy appearance. This was the new me, so I thought.

One day when I was walking through a hallway, and a commanding officer had stopped me. He looked down at the name badge on my chest and said "Beard, looks like you need to start growing a beard to match your name." At this point he had me intrigued as I knew I wasn't allowed to while in the military. He informed me to go to medical and request a no shave chit. He said it looks like you have PFB or Pseudo Folliculitis Barbae. Of course I left that day and did all the research I could. I found out that PFB or Pseudo Folliculitis Barbae, was also referred to as "razor bumps which is caused when tightly curled beard hairs, sharpened by shaving, curve back and re-enter the skin, resulting in facial inflammation, bumps and infections." So I took his advice, saw medical, and received no shave chit. At this point, I realized it was a man's birth right and my destiny to grow a beard.

I maintained a short stubbly beard for the rest of my service time. After the military I experimented with different lengths of growths and beards products on the market. I couldn't seem to find a wash or shampoo that didn't make my beard feel dry. I would find a few fragrances of oils I liked but after reviewing the ingredients I then discontinued use. This experimenting continued for years. Then, in 2015, I stumbled across some products at an herb store with natural ingredients. This is where my journey began to make my own beard care products.

After several years of research, investment and time I’ve finally reached production with curating top quality Beard Oil and other beard care products in mind. I am excited to announce my first four fragrances: Caribbean, Islander, Temptation and the Limited Edition Bourboned Pumpkin. All four products have all natural ingredients with desirable curated fragrances with only the best care for your skin and hair in mind. This is only the beginning of a life long journey I have committed to.
